Note the most common mythconception is that the area code determines the localness of a phone call. Distance is all that matters, and for example, if you're anywhere in San Francisco-proper, then you are a local call to South San Francisco even though they're in different area codes. Dialing a number within your area code does not necessarily mean it is local, dialing one outside of your area code is not necessarily a toll call, and the recent area code splits have no effect on the localness of dialing a specific community.

Cities surrounding those listed above are often also local, and you should be able to find a local dialin number anywhere in LATA 722, in some cities adjacent to our main LATA, and in major parts of the Sacramento area. Consult your phone book or the operator to verify numbers are local phone calls to you. Note that some prefixes are new and may not be listed in the front of your phone book yet.
