What is DSL?

DSL is an "always-on", dedicated service, similar to T-1s or Frame Relay, available from ISDN speeds (144Kbps) through T-1 speeds (1.5Mbps). Like Frame Relay, DSL is distance insensitive within the service area, and with several competing telephone companies, DSL "loop" pricing (the line to your home or office) is significantly less expensive than Frame Relay.

DSL speed ranges from 3 to 50 or more times faster than a modem connection. It is a 24 hour, 7 day connection, with no per minute phone charges, no waiting for modems to connect, and no dropped connections. Raw Bandwidth offers businesses DSL service utilizing AT&T/ASI ADSL lines, connected to us for upstream Internet connectivity and your front-line service support. ADSL lines offer faster download speeds than upload, so T-1 service may be more appropriate for sites needing to offer servers or VPN access to the outside, though the slower upload speed is okay for running a mail server and low-volume web server not too heavy on the multimedia. ADSL is also ideal for the teleworker to access the Internet and the office.

Why does my company want it?

Productivity is enhanced with faster access times and no dialup waits.   (Instantaneous connectivity, instead of waits of up to a minute for a dialup account using an analog dialup modem)

All of your employees can connect through your Local Area Network(LAN) to the DSL line, and share this single high speed line for Internet access. Eliminate extra phone lines and usage charges, the wait for a modem to connect and the for web pages to load, and multiple ISP accounts. Increase your productivity all while saving money!

Once your DSL service is set up, the Internet becomes an integrated part of your business.

Can I get DSL?

Business DSL is available from Raw Bandwidth throughout most of the greater San Francisco Bay area in specific locations where ADSL is available, up the coast to the Oregon border (California LATA 1). Distance from a telephone company's Central Office (CO) or DSL-enabled Remote Terminal (RT) is a limiting factor in its availability.  To check availability, you can complete the pre-qualification and order form below, email us at sales@rawbandwidth.com, or phone us at 650-802-8006. Even if DSL isn't available, our sales and technical staff will be happy to help you find the fastest, most cost-effective solution available.

Service Pricing and Philosphy

Raw Bandwidth's approach to pricing all of our services is to offer sustainable pricing, and quality service... we focus on providing the full throughput of your line on a statistically sustained basis to the Internet. Running servers on this service is perfectly permissable, however resale (or give/trade) of IP connectivity on these services is not permitted. You may contact us to negotiate pricing if you wish to share your connection with your neighbors, to resell connectivity to the public, etc.

Raw Bandwidth's Business DSL service utilizes an ADSL line from AT&T/ASI, connected to us for upstream Internet connectivity.

*+ In exchange for a 12-month term commitment, Customer receives a lower Base Monthly Rate (first column) as compared to service established on a month-to-month basis. Upon completion of the term commitment period, service continues month-to-month at this same reduced Base Monthly Rate. Some plans have an additional "In-Term Monthly Discount" (second column) which applies only during the 12-month term commitment period, and is separately itemized on your bill, yielding an "In-Term Net Monthly Rate" (third column); this discount is prorated to and lasts only through the end-date of your term commitment period, but you may have the option of entering into a new term commitment to receive a base rate, in-term discount and net monthly rate for your service available at the time the new term agreement is entered into.

*^ Federal Universal Service fund is added to each plan, and may change from time to time, even during a term contract. Please see our FUSF FAQ. Raw Bandwidth reserves its right to add FCC, CPUC, or government fees, assessments, and taxes imposed on bundled telecommunications services or the Internet service itself.
* Downstream and upstream speeds on these services are dependent on your distance from the serving Central Office (CO) or Remote Terminal (RT) and other factors which effect the speed SBC/ASI's ADSL equipment can provide over your particular line. Potential speeds are quoted in terms of DSL synch rate; subtract approximately 15% for protocol overhead (mostly ATM) for actual throughput.

One-time/setup or change charges:
Line Installation: $60 WAIVED with self-installation on 1-year term plan**

Downgrade Service Speed Plan: $50

Technical Installation: negotiable; when Raw Bandwidth must come to your premise to assist with inside wiring issues, install a splitter, etc.

Trouble Dispatch: minimum $60 (discuss prior to dispatch; applies ONLY if trouble is NOT found on telco side of inside wiring demarcation).

Hardware: required but you may supply your own (plus sales tax):
Hardware Price
Used ADSL bridge and filters $49.95 or $WAIVED**
Used ADSL bridge and splitter $74.95
Filter Pack (5 total) $19.95
Splitter $29.95
Here is a description of filtering choices

** 12-month term agreement information:

With a 12-month term agreement, you can get WAIVED self-installation of the DSL line, and a reduced monthly fee. The term agreement must be completed and returned within two weeks of the installation due date for your DSL service in order to be effective as of the start of service. If you fail to return a properly executed term agreement within that time, you will be billed and must pay for the $60 line activation fee, and the higher monthly rate retroactive to the start of service. If you return the DSL term agreement after this two week window, your term will be effective as of the date of receipt of the agreement, and the installation charge won't be waived. Please be sure to return the completed term agreement! This is been a big problem in the past, and it is YOUR RESPONSIBLITY!

EQUIPMENT OFFER: New customers only (no DSL service with Raw Bandwidth in the past twelve months) can receive a Used bridge/modem DSL equipment package with 5 DSL microfilters at no charge in addition to the above benefits by signing and returning our 12-month DSL term agreement within two weeks of the due date for your order. (If you need a DSL splitter, you will have to purchase one, but can get the Used DSL bridge/modem at no charge to use with it under this offer.) If you fail to make the deadline, equipment will be billed at the listed price and Raw Bandwidth is under no obligation to waive the charges. You understand that Raw Bandwidth generally supplies used equipment, but warranties the equipment it provides for a period of 1 year; if it fails under normal use, we will swap it out at no charge. We pay for ground shipping to you; you must pay for ground shipping back to us when it's necessary to return equipment. If service is unavailable, or you need to return equipment for any other reason, you must ship to arrive to us within three weeks or you'll be billed regular price for the unreturned equipment. Raw Bandwidth may, in its sole discretion, extend this offer to existing customers with failed equipment outside of warranty in exchange for a new term agreement.

There is a maximum of $200 early termination charge if you break a term commitment with us, with some ability to mitigate the early termination liability in the case of a move (for example, by establishing a new term at a new location within our service area). On our present term pricing plans, once you have completed the initial twelve months, pricing remains at your base term rate on a month-to-month basis by default; note however that some plans have an additional in-term discount which expires at the end of the term period, but you may be able to enter into a new term to receive the discount. Please read the full terms and conditions [pdf] of this offer.

EXISTING CUSTOMERS: Presently, you do NOT need to disconnect and reconnect to sign on to the term commitment offer; just complete and return the PDF acknowledgement form, as instructed in the term commitment document, and your term will begin as soon as as properly completed acknowledgement form is received. Note if you are an existing customer who signed on to a term agreement at your present location in the past, you will need to sign onto a new term agreement to obtain lower base pricing, if available above. Also while as of 7/5/05, many existing customers are not being billed the Federal USF reimbursement, any new term, speed change, or move of service, will result in the FUSF assessment being added. This offer for existing customers to sign a new term to receive new term pricing is subject to modification or withdrawal at any time and without notice.
